Proof & Loaf is a small, independent site for people baking their first sourdough loaves at home. Our job is simple: help you buy the few tools that actually make a difference and skip the ones that don’t.

How we research

Every guide starts with the question a beginner actually has (“Do I really need a Dutch oven?”), then we work through manufacturer specifications, independent test-kitchen results, and the experience of long-time home bakers. We explain the tradeoffs in plain English and always include a budget option and a “you can skip this” option when one exists.

What we don’t do

• We don’t accept free products or payment in exchange for a recommendation or a better position on a list.
• We don’t write fake reviews or invent test results. Unless a guide says we tested something hands-on, our picks are research-based, and we cite who did the testing.
• We don’t show prices, because they change daily. Use the buttons to see the current price on Amazon.
